Critical components to a successful data migration are testing the entire process with exhaustive iterations of data validation and process verification. If the work isn’t done upfront during the implementation process more work will be required when the system is live in production. There are a lot of tools that claim to be code-free-do-it-all migration solutions, but the reality is that the data migration process requires an experienced leader with both the business skills and experience to understand solution requirements and the programming skills to transform that outdated legacy data into the more modern relational database that the newer and currently popular systems are using. Interfaces, Reports and Application changes are inevitable with even the smallest of implementation projects. Today’s modern information systems are typically more rule-based and do a lot of the work for you to meet customer management and billing requirements, but there are often customizations required for specific business requirement not included the product’s base offering. There are often interfaces in which the inputs and outputs need to be formatted a unique way in order to establish required communications between the new application and existing systems. Some examples of often-customized interfaces include meter reading, cash remittance, letter generation and bill formats. And then there are reporting requirements. Past experience shows utility companies that have been live on their current CIS for 20 or 25 years have over a 100 or more reports that they run regularly. Miitek has experience working with customers to help identify what interfaces and reports are necessary for the business and is able to develop requirements for these programs to run with the new system and lead the effort to code the solutions.
